What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Index Finger?

My knuckles on my index fingers are swollen and they hurt when I perform some activities. It is also painful when I accidentally hit them. I have been checked for RA. Do you have any suggestions on what might be the cause and what type of specialist I might seek analysis from?
