What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Jaw After A Head Injury?

I was hit by a cricket ball by a batsmen. He hit the shot very hard and while i was talking to someone it hit me right above my right ear with full force.I felt blackout for 2,3 seconds and then put icepack on it. however it was my turn to bat so I had the concentration to bat after being hit. Now after 1 hour my jaw is sore and the area has swelled. should i get it checked and is it serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Soreness, swelling is common after trauma and may take few days to settle. It does not raise a lot of concern.

However, if you have persistent vomiting, any weakness, dizziness, fainting or loss of consciousness or vision problem you should urgently see your doctor.

If none of the above symptoms then you can use some painkiller and ice packing to the area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
