What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Knee When Diagnosed With Sinusitis?

I started with a sinusitis (11/27 after visiting grandchildren, and flying from SC back to CA. Wednesday 11/29 started with significant tooth pain and headache upper left jaw. Had tickets for show in Vegas so flew again on 11/30. Ran low grade fever all of Friday 12/1 and the sinus drainage worsened. Flew back 12/3. Saw dentist first thing 12/4, diagnosed likely strep (throat and lymphs swollen and worse on left side) and sinus infection, rather than the tooth. Prescribed and started Amoxicillin 500 tid on 12/4. Monday evening went to be early with new pain in my right knee. Mostly behind knee. Slept with heat and elevation to right knee and heat pack to left face. Also taking Mortrin 800 mg q 8 hours since Sunday night. Woke Tuesday am, and what I thought was a sore nuder my nose from blowing, looks much more like a herpes outbreak (the place I get them though quite rare for me). Dentists ordered Valtrex. This morning throat looks better, sinus drainage better, continued left sided head and now ear pain. My real question: the right knee. Tuesday AM swollen, painful, difficult to bend. Today very swollen still painful. Relationship??

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This presentation of symptoms most likely suggests of a viral etiology which could have triggered your infection and body aches (in your case -knee). Nothing to worry, all symptoms will subside in a couple of days. Usually virus has its own course (short time).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
