What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Knees?

My 16 yr old daughter is just getting over mono. About a week ago her right knee started hurting and became swollen. She has had a X-ray and it was fine. But the pain and swelling continue even with rest ice and elevation. Now her whole right leg is swollen and painful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to rheumatoid arthritis.
I suggest you to do a rheumatoid factor level to confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile, you can use noninflammatory medication for the pain and inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
