What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Legs While Suffering From Fibromyalgia?
Hi, My sister-in-law, age 59, has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Her current symptoms are swelling in legs and pain all over. She is having a harder time getting out of bed, walking, and can hardly go up and down stairs. Her mother died with scleroderma. She has been on Lyrica and she has had no relief of her symptoms. She has been to several doctors who have run a lot of tests and seem to not be concerned. She is not looking for pain medication. She just wants to get to the bottom of what is causing all of her pain. She lives in Tennessee and I live in Columbia, SC. Should I find her a neurologist or rheumatologist here. Which doctor should I make her an appointment with. Thanks.
Sorry to hear of her disease. In fact, the pain of fibromyalgia cannot be explained as even we yet don't know exactly the cause. However, we need to rule out other causes of body aches. The swelling in legs is not something that can be explained by fibromyalgia.
So we need to rule out other causes. The best option would be to see a rheumatologist for her pains.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
