What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Throat?

I m on methotrexate so my immune is suppressed, I finished my course of antibiotics for tonsillitis around a week ago, I felt fine but now my throat and tonsils are again swollen, tender and very painful. I noticed a bright red line which I could only describe as a vein sort shape running through/down my right tonsil. I m also on entanercept injections. One of my recent regular blood results came back as me having low white blood cell count and I m going for a full count retest on Friday to check everything s ok. Hoping for some advice as I feel I am always rushing to to the doctors for walk in because of my medication and thought an online opinion may help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The current issue of swelling and pain in the throat is indicating the possible residual tonsillitis after the course of antibiotic. Low immunity does play a major role in the slow and delayed recovery.

Additional measures with gargles of salted lukewarm water added peppermint oil will help better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
