Hi there,

I see this quite a bit after IV's are inserted or blood draws in the hospital. This is likely due to a hematoma (bruising under the skin). The treatment for this is warm compresses and arm elevation. I recommend warm compresses for 15 minutes on, 10 minutes off, and continue to repeat, as well as elevation of your arm above the level of your heart. This is nothing to worry about and should resolve within a few days.

I hope this is helpful. Please contact me if you have any further questions.
