What Causes Pain And Swelling Of Ankle, nausea And Breathlessness During Pregnancy?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and having pain and swelling just above and behind my left ankle. I did not swell much with this pregnancy as I did with my last. The last 3 days I have been having bouts of lightheadedness, nausea, overheating/sweating, rapid heart beat, and difficulty catching my breath. I have been seen in the ER for the rapid heart rate before with this pregnancy. I had an ultrasound on my legs to check for clot and a CT of my chest. Both checked out. I am not sure what to think? The swelling and pain came on suddenly while I was relaxing tonight.

Dear patient Swelling of ankle and foot may be normal Finding during pregnancy. With increase in duration of pregnancy size of uterus increases and it compresses pelvic organs. Compression over internal iliac vein leads to impaired venous drainage and hence accumulation of fluid in the ankle and foot. So nothing to worry at present. If swelling persists after delivery then you need to be investigated. All the best.
