Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My toe on my left foot started out red about a week ago. I thought it was an insect bite. Then it went from red to raspberry red and started aching and swelling within a couple of days. Now it is still aching, swollen and is a purple color. Epsom salts soaking helps. It looked better yesterday but now feels bad again. I did put a shoe on yesterday because I had to go somewhere. It has now been a week since this happened.
It would be good if you could get your serum uric acid tested to see if the left foot toe pain is due to gout. If so, please consult a Rheumatologist. If it is an infection, then you would have to take antibiotics, and if an abscess has developed, since you say it is swollen and purple, then an I & D would have to be done to drain out the puss and dress the wound. In such a case, you would have to consult a General Surgeon or a Podiatric Surgeon.
