What Causes Pain And Swelling On The Shin After An Injury?

My parnter had a piece of iron bath that hit him in the shin bone whilst at work. It made a deep gash and got a soft tissue infection in it. He went to A&E and they x-rayed and confirmed no broken bones but soft tissue infection and issued him with anti-biotecs. The wound healed quite nicely. Now six weeks later he has severe aching in the leg in the same area and swelling around the shin and calf . His doctor says it is inner tissue scaring and nothing to be concerned about. However, it is causing him considerable amount of pain when walking with a deep aching and is tender to touch. Should he go back to the doctors again? Do you think it is somehting to worry about or just an injury that will take a long time to heal? Please advise.
