What Causes Pain And Tenderness In The Upper Back?

I have progressive pain in my left upper back. It is localized and tender to touch, but seems to be increasing. I am on Prednisone for poison ivy, so cannot take an anti-inflammatory right now. I took Tylenol XS today but that does not seem to help. I have not had any muscle strain or unusual exercise that would have caused this pain.
