What Causes Pain And Tightness In Chest Along With Wheezing?
My daughter stays in a flat where there air conditioning is on 24/7 all year, weather winter or summer and she is asmathic. So she have developed chest pains, tightness, wheezing a lot. Can it be t caused by the air conditioni. She went to see the doctor thinking that she have got cancer and the doctor examined her and he said no it s not.
Thank you for your query Wheezing happens when the airways react to inflammation (caused by various allergens) by swelling up and narrowing the airway which causes difficulty in breathing, the audible wheeze and in severe cases tightness of the chest and chest pain. Normally, our respiratory tract is well moisturized and prevents foreign agents from causing inflammation up to a certain extent. However air conditioning dries the air and in the long run our upper respiratory tract changing its dynamics and mucous production. This can worsen the symptoms in people who are prone to asthma and exacerbate it.
On the other hand, chest pain of any kind needs to be examined and cardiac causes has to be ruled out.
I recommend seeing her physician and in the mean time she could try a humidifier (which needs to be regularly cleaned).
Hope this helps. Please contact us if you have any questions. Wish you both good health
