What Causes Pain Around Knuckles?

Hi, I have been experiencing a bruised - like pain around my knuckles for about a week now. Pain is constant. No stiffness, just a bruised feeling in the ring finger of left hand & the mid. finger of my right hand. Hurts even to do the slightest things. Could this be arthritis? Am a 40 yr. old female.
