What Causes Pain Around Right Shoulder Area Radiating Towards Neck?

2 nights ago, in my sleep, I had an unusual, fairly intense pain in my right armpit, but not really in my armpit, more toward the lower, outside part of my right shoulder blade area near where my armpit starts coming from the back. No position changes would help during my sleep. When I woke up and got moving around the pain eventually subsided. Later yesterday evening though, I could feel it returning slowly and this time I could feel it in my neck too. Same symptoms during the night last night and when I woke up and got to work the pain was gone. It seems nerve related due to the proximity of the pain but I just have no idea what could have caused this. Strange, very strange and a bit of a concern due to the intensity of the pain. Movement aggravates the pain too.

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain around right shoulder area radiating towards neck. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to certain reasons like trapezius trigger point , muscle spasm , disc problem or working in same posture for long time . Sometimes problem in TMJ can also cause such symptoms. I would suggest you to apply warm compresses to neck and shoulder several times a day , take proper rest , change your posture after after every few minutest while working , do stretching exercises for trapezius muscle under expert and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Consult orthopedic surgeon if condition doesn't get better . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI or nerve conduction test . Doctor may recommend particular stretching exercises , physical therapy , muscle relaxant or anti inflammatory . Sometimes suck type of pain can also occur due to stress and anxiety so try to make yourself relax.
