What Causes Pain Around The Belly Button And Diarrhea In A Child?

My daughter is 6 years old. She has been complaining of stomach aches for months around her belly button. At times it was so severe we went to her pediatrician. They said it was a stomach virus. Yesterday, an xray was done and it showed severe colon impaction. She has been on 8oz of Gatorade with 1 cap of miralax every 2 hours since 10am this morning. She has had 2 very small bowel movements. However, she does have liquid diarrhea and is passing food she has eaten in the past 24 hours. She does not have a fever and at the moment is not in pain but the pain comes on suddenly and can last for hours.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to a enterovirosis.

I suggest using to continue the medication prescribed by your doctor.

I also suggest giving her daily probiotics.

I recommend to give her a plain diet and a lot of liquids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
