What Causes Pain Around The Neck And Ears After A Flu?

I am just getting over the flu and now have developed a severe headache in the back of my head and top of my neck that is going around to my left ear and if I moved my head or bend it down or cough it is really bad. This started in the middle of the night last night and is steadily getting worse

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have flu along with pain around neck and ear . Well the symptoms you mention in query occur due to many reasons like allergic rhinitis , viral infection of upper respiratory track or otitis media . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order swab test , viral culture test and examine ear with otoscope to rule out above conditions . Usually viral infection go by its own after completing its cycle . But is the infection is severe doctor may prescribe anti viral drugs along with muscle relaxant . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon in case of muscle spasm . For now do betadine gargles , apply hot compresses to neck and ear and keep your ear dry .
