Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain in the back of my ankles. I have purchased new tennis shoes but it has not helped with the pain. it hurts when I touch the muscle in the back of my ankles. That area can also has a tendancy to be stiff but I walk on the treadmill, walk to play golf, etc. Your thoughts?
As there might be stiffness of the muscle and less ankle joint freedom we need to first check the flexibility of the muscles.
Like I would say check out for the range of motion of the ankle movements like - dorsiflexion, plantar flexion, eversion, and inversion.
You can check the movements online. Post this even check for the shoe, it should be flexible and 360° bending. As this degree of flexibility in the shoe is almost most comfortable for the foot bones and muscles.
Since the sport is difficult from you I will advise you to do some balance board training.
Research has found this to be effective to get the ankle stability and correction of Imbalances in the muscles. Also, do stretching of the calf muscles as well to have good flexibility.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
