What Causes Pain At The Base Of The Skull?

My head hurts on the right side. A few days ago I was swimming in a pool and noticed when I submerged my head that something was different in I felt my the inside of my ears did not like the pressure of water. Yesterday, I started to feel a jabbing pain in the base of my skull on the right side. It jabs every thirty minutes or so. When I swallow, I can feel that side as food or drink pass. It feels tender on the right side of my head and even my hair there is sensitive to touch at the scalp.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, it may be due to occipital neuralgia.

For that, you may require MRI neck, nerve conduction studies after consultation.

For that, you can take tablet acetaminophen. You may require tablet Pregabalin after consultation.

Along with that do regular physical therapy. Take a balanced diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
