Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having neck pain at the base of my skull. I also have started experiencing dull, achy feeling on the back of my head and some times on the sides of my head. the head pain is occasional and seems to occur when I sit for prolonged periods of time. I have been seen at a local university hospital spine clinic and had an MRI last week. I have been told that I have lumbar stenosis and arthritis in my spine. Could the pain in my head be brought about by cervical stenosis and/or arthritis?
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Yes, pain at the base of your skull , on the back of your head and on the sides of your had can be related to cervical stenosis, and arthritis of your cervical vertebral column. Pain genereally occurs from damaged nerves, and it may radiate to your scapular region, or to your arms. It might also be associated with dizziness.
I suggest you to: -start physiotherapy, -apply ice packs -take painkillers (naproxen 1 daly for some weeks), it reduces pain and inflammation. - try not to keep your head for a long time in uncomfortable positions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Suela Gjata, General & Family Physician
