What Causes Pain Behind Knee?

Hi, i am 53 years old and have pain behind my left knee in the fatty part. It hurts to stand or walk or walk down stairs or to get up. Sometimes it is hard to stretch my leg out. Sometimes I feel my knee pop. After I walk for a while it feels better but there is still a lot of pain. Help!!
