What Causes Pain Behind Right Ear When Walking?

I have had a very dull headache behind my ear on the right side for a few days and it doesn t feel as bad when I sit or lay down, just when I am walking around. I threw my back out in December, but it feels fine now, is this an after effect? Should I go in?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

One of the most common causes of a headache behind the ear is a condition called occipital neuralgia.
Occipital neuralgia occurs when the occipital nerves, or the nerves that run from the top of the spinal cord up through the scalp, are injured or inflamed.
I recommend to try an over the counter pain killer such as Acetominophen.
If the symptoms continue, you should see a neurologist and get evaluated.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
