What Causes Pain Behind The Head, Neck And Vomiting In An Elderly Woman?

My aunt who is 72 this Sunday got a pain in the back of the head and neck. She never get headaches. When she walks she holds both sides of her head. The pain seemed to let up a little today. My parents have noticed that her sentences are backwards. She threw up twice on Tuesday while staying at my parents house. Her doctor is treating her for a sinus infection with antibiotic and steroid. She mention to my mother that her hair is falling out. Don t know how long this has been going on.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

With a history of headaches, altered verbal responses, nausea and vomiting, it may be best for her to be reassessed.

It is possible that her symptoms may be related to a viral illness but at her age, imaging eg CT brain should be considered as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
