What Causes Pain Below The Rib Cage Along With Diarrhoea?

Pain and discomfort in upper left intestinal area below ribcage for the past 3 days after being constipated for 2 days on vacation in Puerto Rico. Constipation turned into mild diarreha for a day then resolved. Pain continues and bowel movements are regular but more often than usual. Just had a colonoscopy 6 weeks ago - removed one very small polyp-otherwise ok. Also had an esophogal scope done as I have history of acid reflux and have been taking previcid for many years. Scope results were fine. I have had this pain before, but never for this long. Is this IBS or could I have picked up something from Puerto Rico?

Hi,

If this is specifically after your visit to Purto Rico. It could be due to altered bowel movements at the stay (could be due to hard water/water born infection of bowels amoebic or bacterial )which has stimulated your acid reflux o cause dyspepsia &pain under left rib cage.

Take the routine medicine for reflux (like ranitidine /gelusil over the counter) Drink plenty of water &fibers in diet/regular exercises to facilitate good bowel movements & no dyspepsia/ indigestion.This should relieve you in 3-4 days.

On case it persists.. consult your family physician for needful prescription of specific medicines to combat infection. After necessary investigations.
