What Causes Pain Below The Rib Cage Extending Towards The Groin?

I have had this pain not a sharp pain just under or below my right rib cage, for about 3 weeks or month. it may go a week and not hurt at all then it will start again. sometimes it runs down to groin area but not that much. Can you tell me what it maybe?
