What Causes Pain Between The Shoulder Blades?

Experiencing pain between my shoulder blades and under my right blade, feel like a pinched nerve. Its been gradually getting worse and moving into my shoulder and front arm pit, down my right arm (like in my funny bone area on the back of my arm) and a little into my front right side chest, hurts when I cough, sharp pain in right back. Feels like its stinging and will hurt more if I turn a certain way, lift arm, and especially when I m lying on my back or right side (difficult to sleep at night and seemed to have started during a sleep slowly getting worse each night/morning over past week). I m 48 years old, female. I tried having a back rub and taking a whirlpool bath with jets on it, doesn t seem to get better, either staying same or getting worse today. Taken some ibuprofen, not really doing much for it.

Hi,

Noted the history related to the severe pain that went on increasing over the last week, spreading as explained by you, whirlpool showers and taking Ibuprofen without much relief.
The history is mostly suggestive of a problem in the cervical spine or upper thoracic area.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation as you are unable to sleep or move properly and doing something at home may increase your problem.
Consult your Doctor for a proper clinical examination so that a probable cause can be decided and further supporting investigations carried out to find the cause and get treated accordingly.
Till then do not try anything at home.
Give rest to the neck and body.
Take Ibuprofen three times a day.
Apply neck collar support.
