General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Discoloration would normally occur with infection, trauma or if the blood supply is impaired for some reason.

Since infection is unlikely and there was no immediate history of trauma then this indicates that there may have been a decrease in blood supply.

This can occur from different possible causes eg blocked blood vessel, autoimmune disease, raynauds etc. If it recurs then you should see your doctor for assessment.
This would include assessment of the pulses and may also include a general examination as well.

I hope this helps
