What Causes Pain In Ankle And Feet Despite Taking Prednisone?

Hi, my name is Joe. I am 45 yrs old, with a history of gout. My feet and ankle have been getting to the point were I can t stand on them for to long or they will start hurting so bad that I have to get off them, and when I do get off them they hurt even worse, then by morning it s usually gone. Even wearing certain work boots will trigger the same reaction even when I m sitting, when this happens it feels like there s a rope around the bottom of my ankle that just gets tighter and tighter. I also take all the drugs for treating gout, I have an ankle issue right now on my left that s going on three weeks now and even prednisone isn t helping. Can it be something other than gout?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in ankle and feet despite taking Prednisone. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , gout , nerve damage or injury, such as sciatica , blocked blood vessels or infection in the joint . I would suggest you to do icing of ankel , take proper rest and do not stand for long time , compress it withe crape bandage and keep it elevated while sleeping , Taka ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . If condition doesn't get well then consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order certain test like blood test , urine test , thumb press test along with CT scan . Doctor may prescribe anti inflammatory , methotrexate or allopurinole .
