What Causes Pain In Arm?

I am at work and experiencing pain in my left arm with limited mobility..can only raise arm stiffly...am 54, not experienced any heart problems to date except have hypertension treated with drugs... my wife is urging me to go to emergency room but am resistant if its just a muscle pull of some kind...
