What Causes Pain In Back Above Waist?

What is causing me to have pain in my back above the waist, pain that means I can t sit to watch TV or sit at the table. Relief is found when standing or lying flat. It s like the pain of kidney stones that I ve had in the past, but higher up. Could it be gallstones? Temperature is normal and I don t feel sick?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello ,
Welcome to hcm,
Gall stones are unlikely to cause pain in the back , its usually radiates from right side of the abdomen to back..As you are getting relief in standing and lying down ,suggests pain is related to posture caused by muscle spasms.try any muscle relaxants tablet and local application of diclofenac ointment. If pain doesn't subside then consult orthopedician for proper evaluation.

thank you
