What Causes Pain In Back Radiating Towards Chest?

I have a pain which came on suddenly. It is in the back and feels like it is in one spot which is about the size of my thumb, but it does s me times radiate around the rib cage if I sit or lie in a certain position. I am not nautious or weak, but the pain is intense
