What Causes Pain In Bladder While Urinating Post Appendectomy?

My 16 year old son had a laparoscopic appendectomy 13days ago, he has been complaining of pain and tightness in his bladder when he urinates, it is worse when he is nearly emptied. It s not there at any other time. The pain score is 7/10 whilst urinating, no pain in penis or anywhere else, just bladder. Can you advise what this is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that there was mild trauma to the bladder or surrounding tissues during the procedure.
If only mild then it should improve on its own but if it is severe then he may need to be seen by his doctor.

They may consider a urine analysis and also imaging such as ultrasound to take a look.

The use of anti inflammatory medication may help eg naproxen, ibuprofen or cataflam

I hope this helps
