What Causes Pain In Cheek Bone?

My 3 yr old son has been complaining that his cheek hurts. I give him medicine and it doesn t seem to help. He wants to lay on a heating pad to make it stop but still says it hurts. He doesn t sleep well at night and wakes up crying saying it hurts. Any ideas on what it could be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have pain in cheek bone . It could be due to causes like traumatic injury leading to loss of subcutaneous fat, scar shrinkage in the previous injury in the area, muscle spasm due to teeth grinding habit or bug bite .

It needs to be evaluated clinically for ruling out the exact cause and treated accordingly. You should consult an Oral Physician or an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon and get evaluated and a proper examination and investigations like facial x rays can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

In case if there is fracture surgical reduction ha to be done. In case if there is soft tissue injury then taking anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, doing cool compresses and applying Heparin gel to reduce bruising can help.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
