What Causes Pain In Cheeks After Removal Of Tonsils And Adenoids?

My 4 year old son had his tonsils and adenoids out 6 days ago and says the insides of his cheeks hurt really bad. Do they use anything to prop the mouth open that may have caused this, or is it pain from his throat? He is adamant that it is his cheeks and Oragel seems to help, but not long enough. Any advice?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello, thanks for your query, 6 days old of post tonsillectomy complaining of pain could be due to tonsillar fossa infection or manipulation during surgery causing small mucosal ulcers in cheek. diluted hydrogen peroxide gargling, antibiotics and pin killers will be sufficient to heal all the ulcers and tonsillar fossa. if the pain increasing , get d opinion from operating surgeon. all the best. take care.
