According to your description the possible causes of your problem are: - Pelvic and / or urinary tract infection transmitted by intercourse - Allergic reaction either to tampons or sanitary pads.
Usually women are more prone to infections during menstrual period due to decreased strength of local protecting systems. If the symptoms persist, better to consult your gynecologist once, get examined and go for investigations like pap smear, urine routine and culture and sensitivity. With this work-up the possible cause of your problem can identified and treatment can be taken accordingly.
Both the partners should be treated simultaneously to prevent recurrences in the future. Taking plenty of water, local and systemic antibiotics can help in curing the problem. You can continue cranberry juice as that can help in relieving the symptoms of urinary tract infection to some extent.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
