What Causes Pain In Genital Area While Suffering From Strep Throat?

my 8 yr old daughter got strep throat and she has severe pain/burning and redness in her genital area. She got a shot yesterday at the doctors office and they said she would feel much better today and all better within a couple. She is in hysterics about the pain and wont even open up because when air touches it it hurts. Any ideas on how I can lessen the pain/speed up the healing process?
