What Causes Pain In Hip, Lower Back And Difficulty During Urination?

My sister-in-law is experiencing pain above her hip and a dull ache across her lower back. She has begun vomiting and says she s having trouble urinating and passing stool. She feels clammy and says she has chills. Should she go to the ER? She said the biggest problem is the pain, especially above her hip bone.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would be best for her to see someone as soon as she can.

Back pain that is associated with difficulty urinating and bowel movements sometimes implies that there is involvement of the nerves in the lower back.
This may not be the case but it should be ruled out.

From the symptoms mentioned, an infection is present but the type would need be determined by blood tests and imaging.

I hope this helps
