Hi,
Hip pain while lying down can have several causes, including
pressure sores, muscle or joint problems, and
nerve damage. As a T-4 paraplegic, you may be at increased risk for developing pressure sores on your hips due to prolonged sitting and pressure on your skin.
Another possible cause of hip pain while lying down is bursitis, which is an inflammation of the bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that cushions the joint. Bursitis can cause pain and tenderness in the hip joint, especially when lying on the affected side.
Muscle or joint problems, such as
arthritis or
muscle strain, can also cause hip pain while lying down. Nerve damage, such as from a
spinal cord injury, can cause
referred pain to the hips or a loss of sensation in the area, which can make it difficult to detect the source of the pain.
It's important to see a healthcare provider for a proper evaluation and diagnosis of your hip pain. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the pain and may include medications,
physical therapy, assistive devices, or surgery. In the meantime, you can try changing your sleeping position or using a cushion or pillow to help alleviate the pressure on your hips.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
