What Causes Pain In Inner Thigh And Upper Leg After Sitting For A While?

I have pain in the inner thigh, upper leg, pain appears after 45-70 minutes of sitting. Pain worsens to the point that it is hard to stay seated. Standing, or laying down flat relieves the pain, but it may still take 20 minutes to go away. Walking seems to prevent the pain from starting but won t relieve it once it starts. I have a history Sciatica but only down the back and outside of each leg. I have 5 lumbar discs bulging, one slightly torn. Recent Thoracic herniated disc which gives me no symptoms. Recent MRI showed that no surgical interventions in the Lumbar or Thoracic area would help my Sciatica. Question: Can this pain be Sciatica?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have pain in the inner thigh and lower leg. You experience pain on standing or walking and gets reduced on laying down flat. Since you have bulging discs in the lumbar area, you are experiencing pain in the thigh, lower leg and spine. You are suggested to get Nerve conduction tests, CT, MRI, X-ray to confirm sciatica pain. You will be treated accordingly with Physical therapy (stretching exercises), steroid injections, muscle relaxants, anti inflammatory, etc.

You are suggested to lose weight if obese, avoid doing activities that stress and strain your spine. Maintain good posture during sleep, sitting, standing or exercise. Poor posture will trigger symptoms. Get treated, left untreated sciatica pain will cause permanent nerve damage and other complications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
