What Causes Pain In Jaw Radiating To The Head?

The right side of my jaw hurts when I chew. The more I chew the more uncomfortable it is, like it's going to disconnect somehow. Yesterday I woke up with it feeling weird, the pain traveled close to left side, had a headache, but resting calmed it down. Again, if I don't chew I'm ok. There has been no stress to the area. I have not injured it. It just came on Saturday night.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query pain in jaw radiating to the head seems to be due to bruxism, stress (common) ,anxiety , misalignment of teeth and sleeping problems . The pain is never pinpoint it radiate to surroundings. I would suggest you to :

- Keep your stress level low by doing exercises ,yoga or meditation , this alone can solve your entire problem.

- You can also take the help of psychiatrist .

- Take over the counter sleeping pills .

- Start taking ibuprofen .

- Give warm compresses to face.

If problem persist for a week then you have to consult dentist and ENT specialist for proper diagnosis of condition. Doctor may correct misalignment (if it is a problem) of your teeth by referring you to orthodontist , may prescribe muscle relaxant or give you night guard.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
