What Causes Pain In Kidney Area?

I have a pain in my kidney area which goes from front to back. I don t have a fever and I have no idea what is causing it. It is much better today but last night it pained me just to get into bed. No pain on urination or any of those kinds of symptoms? Thank you. Audrey L.

HI
Well come to HCM
This could be colicky abdomen pain and renal colic need to be ruled out for the next time if you ever experience such pain, some time this could be nonspecific, in short if this subsided without the medicine then no need to worry about this, but for the next time this would be great matter of concern, take care.

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Shailja Puri's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain in the kidney region (lumbar region) is most probably due to some pathology in the kidney.
Kidney stones cause sharp pain which usually radiate from lumbar region to the groin region.
However, your pain is limited to the lumbar region.
An ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvic region is required to assess the abdominal and pelvic organs.
In addition, kidney function tests are also required to assess the kidney functions.
Management will depend on the result of the investigations.
Consult your physician for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.

Thanks and take care
