What Causes Pain In Kneecap Along With Lump Above The Knee?

I have pain on the right side of my right kneecap. My knee is swollen and feels hot. There is also a lump that feels like a marble above my knee. Is this something serious? Three years ago, I had chemotherapy for breast cancer when I was 37 years old.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in kneecap along with lump above the knee . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query infection , bakers cyst , sebaceous cyst , haematoma , callus formation and knee injury . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray , ultrasound , MRI or arthrocentesis along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics , any inflammatory . Doctor may also recommend arthrocentesis , arthroscopy or refer you to dermatologist in case of skin problem . For now apply warm compresses on knee thrice a day and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
