What Causes Pain In Left Side Of Chest When Drinking Coffee?

Why do I occasionally experience a sharp pain on the left side of my chest when I drink coffee? My father has a slight case of Tachycardia and, at times, I also have a higher than normal heart rate. Is this anything to worry about, or could it just be that I m irritating a nerve with the heat of the coffee? (I m also a 24 y.o. female if that helps).

Hello dear, Thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion you are having chest pain because of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) mostly.
But better to rule out cardiac cause first as you are having rapid heart rate with left sided chest pain. So get done ECG to rule out cardiac cause.
If ECG is normal than no need to worry much for cardiac cause.
Your chest pain worsens after coffee intake. This also favours GERD more.
So try to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief.
1. Avoid coffee, tea.
2. Avoid hot and spicy food.
3. Avoid stress and tension.
4. Take proton pump inhibitor.
5. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in bed to prevent reflux.
No need to worry, you will be alright.
