Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter just turned 13 a month ago. She had pain in her left side under her rib cage all through the night and this morning. It is now better. I thought it might just be gas, but I am worried it could be something serious, such as her spleen. Should I take her to urgent care?
As she is better now and her age is 13 years, I don't think that it could be something serious.
Most common causes for the pain in left side under the Rib cage are: 1) Trauma 2) Acid Reflux or acidity 3) Abdominal distension 4) Referral pain due to gas in colon 5) Referral pain due to renal stones
Some rare causes are spleen injury, and other referral pains causes pain under the Rib cage on the left side. So, I will advise her to take to give tablet Rantac now.
If these symptoms recurred again, then I will advise to do ultrasound abdomen and pelvis and review here with detailed history and reports or consult with surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale
