What Causes Pain In Leg Muscles While Exercising?

I've been getting pain in my calfs and leg muscles whenever I excercise. My doctor has told me to stop taking my cholesterol medication and has asked me to get a blood test for CK. Could this be causing the muscle pain and exactly what is CK and will the pain subside.
