What Causes Pain In Lower Esophagus?

I am having pain in my lower esophagus. 1.5 weeks ago I swallowed some chicken and it seemed to get stuck in that area. It was very painful but it cleared. Today I have had a lot of pain in that area. What could cause the food to seem to get stuck and have so much pain? Why would I feel pain now when I don t have anything stuck?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, it should be evaluated on plain X-ray film erect chest AP view for any air-fluid levels and if unremarkable barium swallow.

Manometry may also be needed but this symptom can't be ignored at all. Any mass lesion or achalasia needs to be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
