Hi. I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant. I've had a cough for about 3 weeks, so I went to the doctors and he listened to my lungs and said he could hear wheezing. He then did a breathing test, then came back and prescribed me an inhaler and antibiotics but now I'm having a lot of pain in my lower left side. It hurts a lot more when I cough or sneeze. I'm curious as to what it could be and if I should go get checked?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern In 28 weeks of pregnancy, you have long standing cough with wheezing. You have been given inhaler & antiboitics after which you started having pain in lower chest on coughing/wheezing. * Your problem can be allergic or bacterial infection. I feel you should have blood counts to detect allergic/bacterial infection.and also X ray chest to exclude lung involvement/ sputum culture & sensitivity to make out effective antibiotic After this few more medicines( Broncho dialaters/ anti allergic drugs/ hetrazan/ cough syrup ) will be added for specific management of the condition. Please don't worry you will be fine after few days of proper treatment. Please consult a chest physician for selection of medicines/dosages suitable for you. Thanks.
