What Causes Pain In Lymph Node To The Left Of Knee?

I have been having a lot of pain in the lymph node just to the left of my right knee. this has been going on for a couple of years. It is tender to the touch and sometimes aches very badly. Is there something I can do to permanently fix this problem? Pain medicines don't seem to help.
