What Causes Pain In My Throat?

Hello. I am 22 years old male, 5 years smoker (maximum 12 cigarettes per day) and I have a pain in my throat for the last three days. I looked into my mouth using a mirror and I noticed a small lump on my palatopharyngeal arch (the left one). The pain propably is caused from this lump because it seems to be in the same location. The lump is like the size of those "v-shaped lumps" on the back of the tongue. Its shape is circular and it is symmetric. The pain is not constant, I just feel it when i swallow or when i move the tongue around which also makes my palatopharyngeal arch. I want to know the possible causes of this lump and pain. Thank you

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Chronic smoking can lead to anxiety symptoms and increase acid secretion. It also increases chances of malignant growth in upper gastro-intestinal and respiratory tract. Anxiety can lead to throat pain due to muscle spasm and by lowering pain threshold. Increase acid production can also cause throat pain due to acid reflux.

For treatment quit smoking and then remain abstinent from smoking. You need to get evaluated for throat lump by examination and biopsy to rule out any malignant growth.

Wishing you good health and all the best.
