What Causes Pain In Neck And Collar Bone?

I am experiencing a throbbing pain along the left side of my neck and collar bone. It feels like I have a catch in my neck so that it is very painful to turn my head to the left. I am 64 years old. This pain has lasted for about a week. I receive some relief when I sit up.
