What Causes Pain In Neck And Shoulder Blade With Tingling In Thumb?

Hi Doc, I have pain in my neck (C3), my left shoulder blade area and tingling in my thumb. It does ease over a week or two but will become painfull again if I do upper body exercises or heavy work. I had pictures taken but nothing showed up. I am 54 yo and like to keep pretty fit. This is very painfull - can you help please. Cheers
